The box for my uncle is completed. I used tung oil as the finish.

I'm glad you tried 100% tung oil... Some times folks won't use certain things cause their woodworking hero's didn't recommend what ever... Tung oil is a time saver......Strange too for some argue against it that have never actually used it!?!?!?

  This old guy years ago got me to putting tung oil on towel racks only on the dowels that hold the wet towels in bathrooms and kitchens also.....and it seemed like the longer it had been on there the better it looked compared to the rest of the towel rack...

  Lissa just tell folks it was your idea. Then watch their reaction......Oh so a female thinks she knows more than a man about woodworking things!!!!

Lol Smallpatch, I get that reaction everytime someone ask me if I want to go shopping for clothes or house stuff and I say nah I would much rather go to lowes..

Great looking box Lissa. I've never used tung oil for a finish myself. Maybe I should give it a try in on my next bandsaw box. Your uncle will be very happy with this gift.

It is always one thing to give a woodwork piece to someone who does not do woodworking but to give it to a master craftsman is a very nervous thing... But he loved it and we discussed how it was made etc. he was very happy! And only had one critique and it was very helpful.  I have no problems taking advice from him and learning. The critique was this. When you have to do filler go with the darker wood color rather than light wood color. That was it. But from what I understand he is showing it off to everyone and that means millions to me.

Very nice project, glad you shared the advice we can all learn from it.

Doesn't surprise me at all Lissa...was very well done.

On top of that, you paid him the highest compliment possible by honoring him & his passion with something you made from wood.
