June 30, 20188 yr Popular Post If you didn't read this in my last post and think you may want to try using sea Urchin, DO NOT GET THEM WET OR ALLOW THEM TO SOAK. THEY DISSOLVE INTO DUST. I have developed a technique for turning with these, although I only be making one more. I don't like making the same thing, even other type of projects. I will change the wood color for my last one.
June 30, 20188 yr Author Its 3 pieces of wood, top, bottom and center shaft. I also used some dense foam to seat up against the urchin. The surface is bumpy and irregular, so I push the top and bottom together to seal as much of the surface as I can. I glued the foam to a quarter inch dowell and turned down to size also.
June 30, 20188 yr Ron we had a demo by Mark Sillay at our club this month. He did this ornament and had a unique method. He uses a 90 degree grinding cone which is only available from a particular electric supply company. Then for the urchin you grind the 90 degree angle on top and bottom and then turn the top and the finial tenon at total of 90 degree or as you look angle would be 45 all around. Then these parts fit in without any airspace.
June 30, 20188 yr Just plain cool Ron...One of these would be excellent for the Easy Wood Tools Christmas Tree...just saying.
