June 24, 20188 yr Popular Post This is the picture a friend gave as reference as to what she wanted for storing thread spools. What I made for her isn't as crude but is made from recycled materials and is not meant to be a piece of furniture. These are the type of thread spools she uses. 1.5" diameter by 2" tall. So the spools laying in a drawer idea isn't ideal for her. The cabinet is 15" deep and 29 " tall. The cabinet is made from left overs and used materials. The door is from some samples given to me years ago. I was happy to use and be rid of it without having to trash it. I found some cheap drawer slides and made four flat pieces and drilled holes for quarter inch dowels. There are 42 on each and the dowels are 4" long and accommodate two spools each dowel. The cabinet should hold 336 spools of thread double stacked. Hope that will do for her. She didn't specify how many she had other than a lot. The drawers are easily removed to access the back pegs.
June 25, 20188 yr as an after thought... I hope it is counterbalanced or mounted so that it doesn't tip over if all of the drawers are pulled out at once... never can tell..

The cabinet is all 3/4" plywood so it should be heavy enough to counterbalance itself. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have her test it after it is filled. Could easily add to the front.

June 25, 20188 yr This is one I did for my DIL. The unit is designed so they could easily move it and they have 3 times. Yes if I had to charge for one of these would be around 1300. All fronts are solid cherry. Top is covered in Formica
