    That is something seeing them old ads. Thats when they were built to last and you could buy parts if they ever broke down. Now they are built to break down so you have to buy another, sorry no parts available.

    You must be talking about Craftsman power tools.

     

    I don't remember the name of them, but when I first started there was a company that sold tools that prided themselves on using standardized parts such as motors, bearings, etc.  Sort of a IKEA version of a table saw.

     

    Looking at Google books you can find old copies of Popular Mechanics, etc.   Lots of interesting reading on how things used to be.
