June 13, 20188 yr Last year, Texas established June 12 as Women's veterans Day. i did not know this! Argghhh!!! http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2018/06/13/opinion/on-women-veterans-day-we-honor-their-service-and-seek-to-understand-the-challenges-they-face/ Happy Veterans Day to all women veterans everywhere, alive or dead, and the families and friends. Thank you for everything you have done. hat
June 13, 20188 yr Sounds sexist to me in this day and age. vet·er·an ˈvedərən,ˈvetrən/ noun a PERSON who has had long experience in a particular field. synonyms:old hand, past master, doyen, vet; More a person who has served in the military. "a veteran of two world wars"
June 13, 20188 yr I'm glad they did this but I have to agree with Dan- a veteran is a veteran and biology shouldn't be necessary for our praise and thanks.
June 13, 20188 yr On Veterans Day I honor ALL Veterans, not just the men, not just the women, not just the Christians, not just the nonChristians, etc. So if the Commonwealth of Massatwoshits ever decided to have a women’s Veterans Day, I would still use it as another day to honor All Veterans.
June 14, 20188 yr Author The replies suggesting sexism are surprising. We have Veterans Day, Armed Forces Appreciation Day, Vietnam Veterans Day, Memorial Day and no quibble. A day honoring women veterans is somehow less? As always, I honor all vets. I'm all for recognition for the women. hat
June 14, 20188 yr Regardless of what any governmental entity does, no special day is required to honor veterans of any sex, race, or ethnicity. To single out women veterans demeans their laudable efforts to be treated as equals in the military.

June 14, 20188 yr Gene is right on. To me this is ridiculous to have a woman's veterans day, they can celebrate Veterans Day like everyone else. Herb
June 14, 20188 yr Author Women's contributions have generally been ignored or downplayed for decades and are quite deserving of recognition. It seems strange to me that it is somehow wrong to honor their contributions yet its OK to have Vietnam Veterans Day. hat
June 14, 20188 yr Well lets have a Afro American day too, and a Muslim American day, and a Mexican veterans day too and etc. We have a veterans day for every veteran,a veteran is a veteran regardless of gender, yeah,we now should have a third gender veterans day too. Herb
June 14, 20188 yr Well I’m not a veteran, so it’s sorta not my right to opine about it. I feel that making a women’s Veterans Days is exclusionary to the men, while celebrating Veterans Day is not exclusionary to anyone. I would fully support anyone’s desire/attempt to educate me on women’s contributions, Vietnam Nam Veterans, Korean Veterans (which is actually the war I know the least about, that there are any living survivors of). I would attend any exhibits that I was made aware of, I love history. This summer the Traveling Wall is coming to my Wife’s hometown. I have never seen it, and have already put my vacation time in at work, to make sure that I see it this year. I will look at ALL the names I can, not singling anyone out for any particular reason. One of our local papers has a women’s sports day, they cover women’s sports, heavily, on Wednesdays. This has always struck me as demeaning to women athletes, cover their $#^% (a harder adjective than darn, inserted here) games, leagues careers like the men’s. I would actually be interested in hearing from Women Veterans, about whether they feel a women’s Veterans Day would take away from their feeling of being included on November 11. God Bless ALL of our Veterans! I do not post this to offend anyone, and hope that I have not done so. This is a subject that makes me realize how difficult it is for me to put my feelings/thoughts into words.
June 15, 20188 yr Author Yesterday was Flag Day to celebrate the adoption of the flag as the symbol for America. Several of the assisted living and senior centers in my area honored the veterans living there. hat
June 15, 20188 yr It was a delight to see our village's main street with all the flags the city hung on their street light poles, and all the business' and home displays.
