June 9, 20188 yr Popular Post When my old Sanborn compressor failed, I started looking for used compressors on CL with the requirement it be at least 1 HP, cast iron, two cylinder oil pump and 20 gal. or more tank capacity...Oh and cheap, and fairly local. A day or two in to my search this showed up on CL...seemingly met all criteria...I waited for a couple more days or so then emailed the guy...couple of days went by, he responded it was still for sale but would be at least 2 weeks before he could show it...had hurt his back and was down for the count...I responded sorry about your back, you have my contact info, when you're better let me know; if I haven't found one yet I'll take a look. Of course I bought the gas model Speedaire a couple of weeks ago planning to rob the pump for mine and using the tank for a surge tank. Three plus weeks went by then out of the blue got an email earlier this week I could come and look at it...as luck would have it, it was right after the truck went wacky. Anyway, finally worked out we could meet at 10 AM today...25 minute drive through the country from here to there. Compressor is original except the motor is a Power-Craft (Montgomery-Wards)...it seems to get along fine with the Sears pump; they'll soon both be history anyway...not sure of the age but the motor to pump belt is a serpentine. Pulleys appear to be original...tank is smaller than it appears...maybe 16g???; Included the hose and filter/ moisture separator. he was asking $45...helped me load it after I handed him (2) $20's. It works "out of the box" for now. His pictures from CL....
June 9, 20188 yr About the only trouble with that type maybe the diafram in the regulator might start leaking but at least they are quiet when running compared to the oil less models. I don't know if the dirt dobbers are bad where you are but if things have sat through a summer then the open motors sure needs checking before being turned on...and some of the older regulators had large holes for the wires and those critters seem to be able to squeeze through any size hole. I just tell guys a 20 gallon model with an oil pump is worth 40 to 80 most of the time and all the components are replaceable. Some might have small holes in the bottom but that can be fixed. And do tighten the pulleys before you use it... The pump pulley and shaft might not can be matched up again...
