There are 4 different ways to mount the colck top on the base, which do you think is best?

I really like the first one. More of the natural edge visible for the viewer.

I like the first one.  Shows the most bark and catches my eye.

12: 52: 03 is my #1 choice

add a barometer, hygrometer, thermometer and just about any other "O"meter as long as they match, are smaller than, the clock and in analog...

I think it would look better without a base, just hanging on the wall....................

 Too many times its hard to find that much flat space without being cluttered and messy looking...

 Then using Slicks suggestion using smaller slabs hanging with small chains from the clock the other weather gauges. You did suggest it didn't you?

My choice would still #1 in the first post although #2 speaks to me almost as much.

Personally I don't like the weeny base.

I like the first pic in each series.

Looking around me right now, Jess makes a good point.  I have more wall space than horizontal surfaces available...

The first pic in the second set. If this is for the widow of the original owner of the wood, I woodn't worry about base versus wall hanging. After all, it won't be occupying YOUR flat surfaces!

If you have enough material, make a wall shelf specifically for the clock.

Provides the options for either/or...

I would go with #1 on both
