April 29, 20188 yr Are they a thing? Last week and twice this week i had folks at the Restore asking about hardware and doors so they can put up "barn doors" in their homes. We're not talking about bi-fold, pocket, bypass, or swinging door. I must have missed some recent "home updating" program.
April 29, 20188 yr I watched a show called Flipping Wars and they were going to put a barn doors on the master bedroom but their cohorts talked them out of it. I assume they are talking about a sliding door on a metal rail. Must be the latest craze.

That does seem to be the current fad, time will tell how long it lasts, but it's a good way to close off an opening without needing the space for the door swing - assuming that you have enough wall space on one side to "park" the door when it's open. Planning something similar to cover the doorway at the bottom of my foyer which opens into a narrowish hallway. A normal hinged door gets in the way so I'm thinking that a sliding door would be the way to go. Johnson Hardware makes a kit with tracks and hangers to use a standard interior door, and furnishes instructions with the kit for making a valance to cover the track and hardware that can be finished to match your décor. April 30, 20188 yr I had a article on this some time ago. "Out of pocket doors" with prettry hardware. Make sure the rail is screwed into the 2x framing of the house.
April 30, 20188 yr It goes along well with the Pallet board wall hangings and furniture. In the 70's they had a run on barnwood wall paneling, The old farmers had to stand watch all night long to keep the boards on his old barn........ Just saying, Herb

May 1, 20188 yr Barn doors do seem to be the thing today, but I'm not sure I'd go that way myself. Probably just a fad that might end in a short time period. Uses up a lot of otherwise usable wall space. Edited May 1, 20188 yr by It Was Al B
May 1, 20188 yr I do not understand what folks like about them. When the door is being opened/closed, what keeps the door from hitting the wall at the bottom? Danl

Danl I think they have "U" guides on the floor,or that track in the center line of door bottom to keep them from rubbing on the baseboard. Herb Edited May 1, 20188 yr by Dadio

May 4, 20188 yr Popular Post Red truck or blue truck, chevy, ford,or dodge.everyone has their taste. I made 2 barn doors that enclose the utility room, the Mrs also wanted themI liked it so much that I made another to replace the swinging doors that enclose the basement bathroomI liked that one so much I made another, that is hinged and replaced an oak door that goes into my shopI liked all of that, so I made a small cabinet that hangs over the utility sink in the basement, and put micro barn doors on that. Like them or not?? I do, and I'm the one who has to look at them
May 9, 20188 yr I love the look of Kenny's doors, but personally I try to avoid barn doors as much as possible, ever since Romeo, a VERY large Hereford bull, chased me through one! John Romeo
