Need Help Aligning A Grizzly Tablesaw

Featured Replies

I have a Grizzly G0715P 10" hybrid table saw.

I am attempting to align the miter slot to the blade but am having difficulty. I am using a dial indicator made by Woodpeckers for measurements but cannot seem to get it any closer than .030. I have loosened the front a rear trunnion bolts multiple times to the point that I am of the belief that they have hit some sort of stop. I have also loosened the bolts holding the top and tried to manipulate it from this direction as well.

Here are my questions:

if the trunnions will not move any further either direction what is one to do?

is adjusting the top better done without the rail tubes attached or does it matter?

How much can one move the top in respect to the blade?

any help you can give would be greatly appreciated

btw .... if you live in the Shenandoah Valley somewhere and want to make a few bucks by helping me align this thing I would not be opposed

Have it done it hence the problem

Are you measuring to the same tooth on the blade for the forward and aft measurements?

Magic Marker  one tooth or spot on the blade.  Use that as your point of indication; rotate the blade as needed.

Loosen the bolts holding the trunion ot table top ( which ever you prefer)

Snug those bolts back up  just snug so you can tap the trunion around with a  lead or brass mallet.

NOT LOOSE  - - -  SNUG  you want positive metal to metal engagement..

If there are no washers you might install them.  Turning a bolt in without a washer can move the structure you just spent all that effort to get in position.

Don't use those cheesy split ring lock washers.  they don't work.

There are only three ways to lock a bolt or nut.

1) Locktite or other thread lock compound

2) A Nord Lock Washer

3) Torque specs

Start tapping the trunnion or table top into position leaving the bolts snugged.

DON'T LOOSEN THEM WHEN DONE  - - - TIGHTEN THEM

Measure again to be sure.

Thinking out loud with my keys Butch...in addition to the advice of measuring from the same marked spot on the blade...

  1.  Have you checked the TIR (Total Indicator Runout) of the arbor shaft at the shaft?
  2. Have you checked TIR w/ the current blade you are using. How about with a different blade? A sightly bent blade burrs on the arbor shaft flange washers can affect your alignment "0" point
  3. A lot of work to eliminate for a pre-assembled saw, but a burr or disruption on the arbor shaft bearing or saw table mounting pads could cause the alignment error.
  4. Similar to #3 burrs, contamination or disruption between the table and saw case could solely or collectively contribute to the alignment issue.
  5. Should you determine shim placement is required as Grizzly shows between the table and saw case, I would call Grizzly to request they provide those shims especially if the saw is under warranty. IMHO, no saw should have left a factory 0.030" out of alignment...0.003" maybe; even up to 0.10" but 0.030 seems extreme. At minimum they should recommend type and where locally you could purchase.
  6. Should you have to provide your own shims, I'm pretty sure Hobby Lobby carries brass sheet stock. Automotive Body Shops &/or alignment shops use pre-made, slotted for a bolt shims also..

Keep asking the questions...we're here to help...wish I lived closer...it wouldn't cost you a dime...well maybe a donut and a coffee:lol:

BTW...a very nice saw you've acquired.

How old is the saw ? Why don't you talk to Grizzly . Those folks don't like un happy customers, I know for they helped me right quick.

I do have a shop full of their machinery and have had only one problem. The problem I had was with a remote switch for the dust extractor. I called them , told them it was a couple years old and and it quit working... They sent me a new one, no charge..

Like the others, it hard to believe a tablesaw is that much out of alignment.  Did the plane that delivered it do a crash landing or something?

I did go to Springfield and picked up the things I bought . After I got everything set up I decided to call them and see if I could return the bandsaw and exchange it for a larger model. Sure, no problem. They gave me full credit...

I do think you should call and talk to them first...... before you mess it up more so.

For what it is worth...... I have a 1947 Delta Unisaw and have aligned it twice because I took the top off.  I didn't touch the trunions but moved the top.  Loke Dave said, I made sure the had no runout in it and I drew the top bolts but a bit snug.  Too loose and the top will bounce and too tight won't allow movement.  I was lucky enough to have a surface gage that had pins on the back and I indicated it from the miter slot running back and forth across the blade.  I set miter about .005 plus towards the back of the blade so that the wood wouldn't get pinched at the fence.  If I were closer I set it up for you.  Mine took about 10 minutes.

Don't loosen all 4 bolts at same time.

loosen only front bolts/back bolts depending on which direction you need to go.

you can "unsnug" a 3rd bolt just enough to get the top to move that direction.

use a soft heavy mallet to nudge the top over a little at a time.
