My way of keeping small letters together

Featured Replies

You have all the letters and numbers in different fonts there on your computer if you are running Microsoft 10 or smaller.

They are listed under Word or a combination of such.

All I have to do is print out the names I will be using and the size I choose. Glue the names on some wood and turn on the 5aba5dd300519_plaqueforkids6.jpg.972393eb2a67fcb534743a283db9e361.jpg

scroll saw. And I would recommend covering the wood with clear packing tape or a person might bust these small letters all to heck trying to get the sticky off the wood. Scotch Brand packing tape leaves less of its sticky substance on the wood than any other brand I have ever used. Scotch brand makes makes names for different applications. Shipping, storage and I think the other is just plain packing tape.  The last being too thin and rips apart when trying to remove it.

Then to make a plaque design for the wall, a set of french curves and a little imagination.

I now make the letters like they are sitting on a piece of wood as it is much easier to attach than if I left each letter loose. The first one I built , each letter was loose and was a disaster for trying to aline those little things was impossible . Then later I got the bright idea to make the piece the letters are attached to a different texture so the letters will stand out more. Here I used an electric engraver either stained darker or left the same color.

Then drill your very small holes

As soon as I print out the names I draw two lines under the names with the first line about a 1/16" through the bottom of the letters and another line about 5/16" under that then drill your very small holes so you will be leaving each letter with at least two connecting points to the bottom piece of wood..

I use epoxy to attach the names to the plaques and you can see I still have not learned exactly how much to use for I always have some showing.  Oh yes,  attaching the names is a one time attempt or else you got epoxy all over the place and it don't like to be wiped up...

Also I would not recommend any spiral blades on small letters for you will get a more professional edge and very smooth the first time without any sanding....and besides you will never learn how to run a scroll saw with those blades!!!

This last plaque was lost in their house fire and everything else they had................................................................................ and besides I have to add another name to this list anyway!!!

Keep on posting, I’m learning (or at least trying) voraciously!
