Wormy chestnut

Featured Replies

Chairman of the Board for a nonprofit resort in north Georgia emailed me to ask if I would make him a pen out of wormy chestnut. There were two trees that the University of Ga. were keeping close watch on, but a camper did not know the one on his campsite was a chestnut, so it was in his way of cleaning the lot up, and he cut it down. He told me that it will been laying on the steps of my camper, but that was about two months ago. I hope it is still there, since it has been too cold to go camping in that area! Guess I'll find out in a few days since I have some responsibilities as a board member.

My younger son works for a demolition outfit, and he said that a large office is being dismantled, and it has walls of chestnut. He said the offices are huge!

Hope it is still there!

Locally, they demolished a roadside attraction from the early 50's. They were  little "cabins" used as lodging for travelers on the Sunshine Trail. They were built from American chestnut. I was hoping to ge a piece of log to make thing from but they were trucked away immediately.

I have some Wormy Chestnut that was used as the base on some wide door mold and casement.  Never used it to make anything with it yet.  Might have to get some out and clean it up and use it.
