Hmmm.   Still a bit skeptical on this one.  His choices may work fine, other brands may not have the right chemical balance between them.

I asked the paint guy at Ace and he said that they do it often. But, it's all Ace brand.

I know a major finish manufacturer that (like most) has acquired some of the little brands.   They decided that there were some redundant products in their line, so they eliminated some.   Turns out that one product from company A did not work with the companion product from company B (where company B's like product was cut).
