December 23, 20178 yr Might not be the place for this post but it is, was, part of a home and it did needed to be improved. A home model drone done it in. Crashed it good. Lots of times a person needs just a lens for a grandfather clock, this one was or is a convex shaped, and would look through Amazon or Ebay or places like that....for a replacement. I did and 17.50 was the cheapest. Well Timesavers.com is a place in Arizona that sells about anything for clocks. So since I wasn't sure of the exact size I ordered 4 different sizes and knowing I could use the other three later on in life and would not go to waste. These were 4.50 each. This was sometime ago and now I will attempt to use one of the three I have left for the lens in a wooden frame, if I can get it built to suit meself for this larger than life last wall hanging thingy I am finishing up on.... Making a wooden frame to secure the round convex lens in and still be able to open up to adjust the hands and getting a hinge secured on the pieces sound like a chore.. But I do have my cnc scroll saw which does have a motor by the way so I feel confident I can build something.... It might not ever get installed on this clock but I guarantee it will get made...My thinking problem, it might end up way bigger than what this clock needs to look good, but hey there will only be one judge to decide that. All of this because I want a home made wood dial and I do want to enclose the hands inside where little hands won't be tempted to mess with... Edited December 23, 20178 yr by Smallpatch
December 23, 20178 yr Timesavers is quite a place, I had never heard of them. I need a clock glass maybe I can find something there. You have a CNC scroll saw?? Wow!
December 23, 20178 yr What a timely post, I am makeing a couple of wall clocks now and will check into that site to see if there is one I can use. I need ones that are in the 8" range. Thanks for posting. Herb My clocks are not as nice as yours though.
December 23, 20178 yr Author Herb that's only in the eyes of the beholder. I might have a few more clocks under my belt than you. So by that calculation you are way ahead of me. Where would you be if you took the answer lot of guys uses, oh I don't have enough patience for something like that... This dam computer is the most mind boggling thing I ever fooled with.. When I first found Timesavers it took me about four different times looking and never run across the round convex glass section. Don't leave out Klockit.com or Clock Parts for simple movements on up to those high dollar models. Clock Parts does offer lots of how to thingies that might be of help to anybody... And Klockit does offer free hands but not second hands on most all movements they sell.. Another important thing, some battery movement brands takes different size holes for the hands to fit on so try to stay with the same brand to keep from getting pissed cause something didn't fit right... Fred those kind of statements you never heard of when I'm talking don't usually have lots of truth behind them.... Like this actual machine I been working on since not long out of high school... I finally got it to where I lay the piece of wood on the table and when I flip the switch on, it takes the wood , inserts it into the gears and wa- la things starts happening, gears turn with lots of noise and on the other end that piece of wood comes out exactly like what my brain was thinking..... Nothing....... nothing ever happens to that piece of wood. So I have it narrowed down to a faulty brain.....If I can just correct that small item, my brain, I think I will be able to get some patients. Somebody says why build clocks since you are retired.. Well to me some of the stuff I build lots of folks would not spend much time looking at but if there is a clock included with the thing I built they might just have to spend a few more seconds trying to figure what it means if the big hand is on one thing and the little hand is somewhere else and all of a sudden they finally notice what I built that their wife spent money on and all of a sudden they happened to be pleased with their wife purchase. At least she usually don't blow the money on beer like the other half does...end Edited December 23, 20178 yr by Smallpatch
