August 24, 20178 yr The wood turning world has lost one of it's great contemporary artists. Binh Pho has passed, if you're not familiar with his work, here is his home page. Binh Pho He visited our club our couple years ago, I had the pleasure of hearing his remarkable story and he shared his inspiration for many of his pieces. He was also an excellent teacher and a few of us spent a hands on day with him. Much too young at only 62(I think). He will be missed. Steve
August 24, 20178 yr Very sad Steve, and way too young. I am selfishly sad I had not known who this man was, and he and his work were not in my sphere of knowledge all this time, I lost out.
August 24, 20178 yr Very sad, indeed. You are very fortunate, Steve, to have met him. Like, John, I was not aware of his work. My loss. I was astonished to realize his past and association with the fall of Saigon.
August 24, 20178 yr We had him demo at our club about 8 years ago. He wanted boxelder to do the demo and someone thought they were getting it. Instead it was elm. During the demo he said "this not boxelder" and some of the guys said Mississippi boxelder. We have joked about that ever since. I saw th display at the Mobile Museum and it was amazing what he was doing with glass and wood combined. He was just honored at the KC symposium with Lifetime achievement award in June. He will be missed.
