August 19, 20178 yr Popular Post The bottom piece was the last one done. Then after closer inspection, it was done but on the wrong side. See the two holes in the two pieces. They line up and a screw goes in from the bottom. I knew about an hour ago it was time to quit and go eat. At least I can still carve the other side.. Can't win em all.
August 20, 20178 yr Alter the bottom of the clock cut-out to match the carved piece...no one will ever know... Hope the meal turned out OK.
August 21, 20178 yr Author Popular Post Dave I flipped it over and did the right side this time. Now I have lots of smoothing to do. I get more wild in my initial grinding than when I first started this type of work but can't come up with a way to keep from having to use sand paper. I use a round diamond coated bit about 1/4" in diameter but still lots of work. But the whole process of carving I am sitting in a chair resting my back.
August 21, 20178 yr Patch, your creative vision and ability to transfer it to wood never ceases to amaze me. Glad you made the save. Looking spectacular so far. Keep sharing the pics.
August 21, 20178 yr Author Hey guys this is amazing. I can make all kinds of mistakes and an hour later I can't find them. I bet you could give 50 people that are experts at carving the same picture to carve and when all get finished no two would be alike. For sure a right handed person compared to a right handed hombre would have different styles and I believe it would show in their work. This stuff has put fun back in my shop.

I agree Jess, it's amazing, as we are working on a piece, we get so tunnel visioned on it, that we see everything wrong with it. Walk away for a few hours, or come back the next day, the errors can either disappear, or they just don't seem that bad at all. love walking away and seeing what I did the next day.
August 23, 20178 yr Author Okay for the dial I thought I would make an oval for it would come close to filling up the space I have for one. I got a round dial off the internet and scanned it . First round and didn't like that so I changed the measurements and got what I needed. The first oval was too big so I dropped the numbers a little and got this one. Then cut it out with the scroll saw. This was done with Rapid Resizer which wife down loaded to work her stained glass with. Scan a picture from the printer to the computer so I can tell resizer what pictures I want printed. I can also do the oval up and down. Sure saves having to hunt for the right size dial then they might not be any available the exact size I need. I would bet a dollar the dial is birch but was the first 1/4" thick I found. Thats okay for it will have a different color that the rest of the pieces.
August 23, 20178 yr That looks "just right" in there Jess. Don't know that I have ever seen an oval clock face, nor would I have thought of that - until now that is! Cal
August 23, 20178 yr By using an oval clock face will that stretch the day out? Looks really cool though Patch. Thanks for the idea/
September 29, 20178 yr You have done it again, Patch, I am in awe of your work. Looking fantastic. Herb
