Never had opportunity to use Sycamore but I do now.  The tree guys that cut it down all said they got sick when the day they cut it down.  It was a hot day so I am wondering was it the heat or was it the Sycamore?  Anyone have any experience with it?:

Never had a problem with allergies with it.

says no health reactions other than those caused by any wood dust.

I got a slab of sycamore a while back and have tried to use it to make small boxes and trim, etc. It has a unique figure and is easy to work with if I don't get muscly with it.  However, I found that it warps a lot after cutting. Internal stresses?? I have no idea what its moisture content was.

I've used a bit of it for small projects like jewelry boxes, too.  Quarter-sawn has some outstanding figure.   I have heard it's often been used as secondary woods -- drawer boxes, etc.

When my daughter was about to graduate from Sycamore High School, I tried making a batch of Shaker boxes for gifts for her friends.    I can tell you, it does not bend well at all.   I think I had over 90% failure rate.  I got one successfully bent.
