January 27, 20188 yr Interesting article on 5 essential shop tools. 1) Bandsaw 2) Jointer 3) Planer 4) Chop saw 5) Drill press Hmm. My most-used and most-versatile tool is my table saw. I ran for 20 years without a miter saw.
January 27, 20188 yr I agree with Keith the table saw is the most used in my shop. I didn't have a band saw for 45 years. Herb
January 27, 20188 yr My bandsaw came with my Shopsmith in '74. Good little saw. Sure wish it were bigger, though. The Shopsmith's drill press and horizontal drill modes are great and used frequently. The 6" Craftsman jointer joined the stable shortly after the Shopsmith. Since I discovered the benefits of decent ripping saw blades, the jointer is seldom used, anymore. Can't even give it away. Never owned a chop saw. They've always been miter saws. The last three were SCMSs. Like the Dewalt planer, I couldn't imagine being without them. However, the tool that sees the most use is my bench.
