I have some questions regarding the terminology used by, in this case, Vectric:

What is 2.5D? What is the difference between 2D and 2.5D?

What is 3D Machining?

What is the difference between 2D and 3D machining?

Thank you for your help and patience,

2D is X and Y axis movement during a toolpath although the Z axis can step down to the requested depth or raise up between passes.

2.5D is limited dynamic movement of the Z axis during a tool path. In Vcarve Pro the fluting toolpath and VCarve toolpath are examples where the Z axis changes depth while the X and Y are in motion. You can do many creative things using the fluting toolpath which most would call 3D work.

3D is simply an array of 2.5D toolpaths with small step overs to carve out a 3D shape.
