Screen door will need replaced.

Well, between GrandBRATS and  Maxwell the Fat Pup beating up on my screen door I built a few years ago.....needs replaced.   Boss also wants a Doggy door added.  Maxwell can open the door to get out, just hasn't figured out how to get back in,, other than stand there and bark at the door.

Old screen door was sitting in a metal jamb from another screen door....broke out the bottom edge of my screen door.   Hinges are worthless.  Going to rip all that out, and go with a few T hinges, like on the Pantry doors.   Bought a new wooden screen door.   Will adapt the bottom half for a doggy door she bought.   Rest of the bottom half's opening will get filled in.  Then a screen guard will be installed over the upper part, to keep certain felines from climbing through.

Whole mess should take about...one day....we'll see how THAT goes...stay tuned

Inside of the door..

Need some trim work inside the opening.    Then I can flip this over, and fill in the outside.   Black "box" is to seal the edges of the doorway, needs trimmed to size for the thickness of the door.   had a few scrap 1/4" plywood panels sitting around, might as well use them up. It's a start, at least.

Fillers have been installed under the plywood panels.   Had to dig up an old GREEN tool..

To cut away a stretch of framework.  Was a bit too tight for the flap on the pet door to go through.

Have the screen guard resized ( 32" door) and installed.     Taking a LONG break, before doing the Demo on the old door.   maybe after supper, when things cool down a bit?

Ok, Mr. Murphy also showed up this morning...went ahead anyway..

Handsome, ain't he?    Removed this thing, test fit the new door...three times.

Twice I had to bring it back inside..

And trim about a saw blade's width off...each edge....Murphy decided it needed to be two widths the second time...

Laid out the hinges and screws...

Hinges did not come with screws.....but cost the same as with screws....grrrrr...FINALLY got the door to at least fit the opening a bit..

Gaps along the edges, will need a bit of trim.   had to keep "adjusting " the sill

Big hammer, wide chisel...sawzall.... still sticks a bit ( did I mention I hate doing doors?)    Have started training the FleaBags on how their new door works.

New latch...didn't like the holes I drilled for it...had to make them bigger....Thumb buttom wanted to go anywhere but where I wanted it to go...latch plate took a couple tries to get "just right"

Bracket to attach the spring to the door...screws didn't want to go into the wood..replaced them with ones that did.   Somehow, bracket went on upside down ( MURPHY!!) so had to redo...still get that "Sproooooiiinng"  sound.    Boss needs to get the grey paint she picked out, and a brush.    I need to add some trim.    Done for one day...

I hope you have video of you climbing through there to show them. :o

Murphy got me in one other area.....seems I had hit the metal on the screen guard with the blade of the circular saw.....kind of dull, right now....

6-1/2" with diamond knock-out.....

Freakin' Murphy Bay-shtid...

Hang in there...not the toughest you've run into...
