June 22, 20179 yr comment_113857 I thought about building a boat. Once. Then I read a book on it and came to my senses. Too many curves and angles to fuss over. They say a framer cuts to the nearest 1/8", a finish carpenter to the nearest 1/16", a furniture maker to the nearest 1/32", and a boat builder to the nearest boat. That and a friend of mine built a canoe as a Boy Scout and it crashed and sunk on maiden voyage (on a canal, no less, not whitewater). And the husband (who was a home builder) of a co-worker of mine bought a sailboat to fix up. His wife said, "He didn't buy a sailboat to fix up he bought a full-sized 3D pattern for making a sail boat." Any of you guys built or thought about building a boat? June 22, 20179 yr comment_113858 I have built several 8' & 10' dingy's and when I was 14 and my brother was 15 we built a 12' plywood runabout, from a Popular Machanics plan. It was a great little boat and we used it on lakes and saltwater bay fishing for many years. Our Dad in his welding shop made a trailer out of an old Model "A" axle to pull it around on. Herb Report
June 22, 20179 yr comment_113861 Never made a boat but did make a trailer for one I bought. I wonder how many times that guy was asked "How much would you charge to build one for me?" Report

June 28, 20179 yr Author comment_114719 Just spent a few days on Marblehead Peninsula on Lake Erie (walleye capital of the world, according to them). Whole lotta boats up there. Marinas, docks, on-lake condos, boat ramps, boat dealers and repair shops about every turn. Report
