Taking a break from rehabbing tools, need to USE a few. 

 

Measured the door opening on the Pantry Cupboard....60-1/2" tall.    Ok, I can start by cutting those three 1 x 10s done to...61" long, and leave a bit for squaring the panels..Made ripping the one board a bit easier.    I marked a center line, and ran one of the boards through the bandsaw......not about to hand rip 5' of pine 1 x 10.  Cut another 1 x 10 to match the length......smear a blob of glue around, and start  getting clamps

Well..there goes the neighborhood.   Piece wanted to bow a bit...

Clamped a few cauls at the worst spots.  Letting this sit for most of the day.....then maybe I can do the other door?

Still have a little bit of crosscutting to do..

 

Right now, the "plan" is to have the narrow boards in the center, so when the doors are closed, it will look like just three boards.   I take off from the outside edges enough to fit the doors.   May or may not add a lap joint in the center.   Where the two doors close together at,  sometimes there was a rebate on both doors.    We'll see IF I can do that.    If not...meh.

Waiting on the glue to cure out, then I can work on door two.

Well...( deep subject..)  Door #1 is out of the clamps..

Decided the edge needed jointing.  Bandsaw is nice, but leaves a wavy edge, with saw marks. 

Plane is that Stanley No.8  I rehabbed.  Made a few shavings..

You  only notice the weight, when you pick it up a bit to pull  it back and start again.   Just about the right size for a board 5'1"  long. 

Once the edge was straight, and mark free....I got out another type of plane..

Took maybe 10 minutes to set up the fence, and the depth stop.   Cutter was a bit too wide,  I merely set the fence to use only a part of the cutter..

Had it set a hair deep, no biggie.   less trips down the edge, that way..goal was to make a "lip" for  when the doors are shut.   Door #2 will have one of these going the other way..

I also cleaned yet another saw tonight..

The pointy end is missing, teeth will need sharpened.   I did find the remains of a logo...

Rumour has it, that this was a  "Woodrough & McParlin"  Compass saw....more research needed...

 

That is about it for today.   maybe tomorrow, I can get something done?  Stay tuned..

I am shocked, shocked, that you did not use a Festool Domino for the edge glue up!!

 

In seeing some of your pictures, I was reminded of a visit I had to the wood shop at the Ohio Historical Village.  In the woodshop there was at least a foot of plane shavings on the floor.   Literally a foot over the whole shop.   I hoped he never dropped a brass screw.  Maybe it was there in case a tool slipped off the bench?    You have about 11 1/2 inches to go.

Just hauled three 33gal trash cans out of the shop a while back....

After using these to flatten the surface of Door#1

Then a quick cut for length, take it upstairs...Grrrrr, mark how much MORE I need to trim off...

Take it back upstairs and start installing hinges..

Everything was going about as well as can be expected, today....the bottom hinge was a little more involved..the little step stool (plastic) broke when I sat down on it.....re-arranged a few things during the fall onto my back.    Dragged a better chair out there, and installed the third hinge...shoulder found the corner of the Island on the way down to the floor, going to leave a mark..

 

Found out I am a package short on hinges....needed 6 hinges..bought 4 (senior moment?)

 

Headed back to the shop, needed to keep moving a bit, otherwise things will stiffen up. 

Cleared the bench top, have things to do..

Marked a length on the last 1 x 10.    Much easier to do the next step with almost a foot less to work on..

Been using both the "new" no.8 and this old Ohio Tool Co. #0-7 as jointers.   Had to clean the nozzle on the glue bottle.   Yeah, been one of THOSE days.

Spread some Elmer's along the edge, and started back by the plane til, adding clamps and adjust the fit.   Needed those cauls, again..

Each end and one in the middle, had to replace the one caul clamp...

Wasn't enough room to get ME past the washer.  Had a Welding "C" clamp....doesn't stick out quite as far. 

On the installed door, there is a "spot"

Just a knot.    The other door has the "mate" to this knot.   Helps make things look like a solid panel...not much on the inside of the door...

Bit of a glue line showing...oh well....

waiting on the glue for Door#2 to cure out, then back to the planes, again....

I look for my old shop stool to give out one of these days. No shame for it as it was here in the house when I moved in- 49 years ago!

Ok, got the panel out of the clamps, and set up to run a jointer

In this shop, Jointers are cordless..

No.8 and an 0-7.   I had to first rip the board to width, and crosscut one end for length....I also used a smaller plane to level the glue joints..

Millers Falls No.8.   A #3 sized smooth plane.   I had another type of plane all set up, once I retracted a spur...

Get it all set up, and ready to go...what does it do?

Why, it gives me some "lip", of course.    Spur was getting in the way, so I got it out of my way. 

 

I eased the edges with a tiny plane..

Just a block plane.  A couple round trips upstairs to the Kitchen to check the fit....

A little bit off at the top...meh....time for some hinges..

And a Latch to keep the Riff-Raff out..

Woodworking part is completed...I'lllet the Boss paint it to match the existing...

Rumour has it, that there MIGHT be an Ice Cold Beer in that white box.....calling it BEER:30.
