New stove with convection

Featured Replies

We are thinking about getting a new stove with the glass top and convection. The sales people were telling us that we need 2 outlets - a 220 for the stove/oven and a 110 for the dash, controls and lights.

Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Thanks,

maybe that brand...  the several I've put in didn't require separate lines...

I've not seen one that takes both outlets. Maybe those sales people came from a paint store (or something). Should be easy to confirm, look at the wiring on the back of the stove (display model).

That's just plain weird, Kelly.

Fred may be right.

No, Fred's not weird...but that salesman needs a couple screws tightened.

Our cook top and oven are on two different walls and not too many years ago we changed from a one oven to a double oven and we did all the building and wiring . We changed over from a spiral metal electric cook top thingy and really wanted the fancy glass top that is not hot unless a pan is sitting on it model but was too deep for the counter top..so we settled on the regular glass top... and did the wiring to fit the changes but right now I don't remember the wiring at all. Could have been 12 volt or 3 phase???  HO ho

All the cook tops and electric ranges I have ever seen split off the 120v.internally from the 240v.source., Maybe Patch is right, it is 12v. 3 phase

Unless it is 12v 3 phase, it will require a 4 wire connection with both a neutral and a ground plus the two hot legs.     All bets are off if we are talking about smallpatch's house.     Roly

Went to the store tonight and pulled the back.off the floor model. Just a single 220 hook-up. The guy.probably smelled too much paint in the paint department

He didn't know so he covered all his bases by saying both.

Stick, read Smallpatch's post and it will make sense. Roly

Most appliance manufactures have their installations manuals on-line.  The manual will give you an idea of what is needed.

First thing we did was look online - it didn't.

I think the lawyers have been so involved with the stupid people and lawsuits, the installation guide said it must be installed by a professional and nothing more was said about installation.

Maybe smelled too much MEK or acetone; paint isn't very good for solvents any more.  :(
