June 6th 1944 was a turning point in the war against Germany.  Code name Operation Neptune, Allied troops laid it all on the line for the freedoms that we enjoy today as thousands of brave men and women stormed the beaches of France by sea and air.  It seems so very long ago but we must never forget the valor of these who fought and died for us.

 

Please take the time to sit back and honor those who fought by watching this archival clip of that day and just REMEMBER.

 

 

 

 

 

Every year around today, I start to think about all of those brave men and boys who stormed Hitler's Fortress Europe to free the world and to end the war. Some gave all, all gave some, there is no question in my mind why they are called the Greatest Generation.

My Dad fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was one of the first to cross the Remagen Bridge during its' capture. 

A couple of years ago I watched a special on the History Channel about the airborne unit that flew gliders in behind the German lines on D-Day.  Brave dudes.  I thought the Nam Green Berets were brave but I don't know how these boys got their pants on.

Every Island in the Pacific Theatre had their own "D-Day"     Tarawa/ Betio Atoll being about the worst of the "first day" of a landing.  All for a 3 mile long "Pork Chop" shaped Atoll.   at least the lessons learned there helped make things a little better at Omaha, and Utah, and Sword, and Gold beaches.  

My uncle was in the south Pacific back then...it was stuff he would never talk about.

Ron, you might want to go back and edit the date while edit time is still open...no being critical, just my OCD kicking in.

Ron & all...you may already know this, but the Normandy Glider attack was led by a native Hoosier, Michael (Mike) Murphy, from Lafayette, IN. My step-father has shared many stories about this part of the attack he heard directly from Murphy after the war.
