Grease fire on range.  Like often, the sides of cabinets are covered with plastic coating, not wood.   Cleaned up, applied peel-and-stick veneer to  side of cabinet, sprayed on color to match, iron on melamine strip on side of door, insurance company happy.  I think you can tell which is before and which is after.
