Sometimes you get Sharpie "Permanent Marker" on a finished surface.   This particular sample is one where the lady had a table for less than a week when this happened.

A little research (Sharpie FAQs) shows that most Sharpie markers and soluble in alcohol and black has an additional solvent.   This repair took more time to take photos and pack in and out than to do the repair.

Dampen a cloth with a bit of denatured alcohol and gently do an airplane touch-and-go over the marks.   Move to a clean part of the cloth when needed.   This is safe for most finishes except shellac or really old lacquer.
