May 18, 20179 yr Popular Post Sitting close to a large group of elderly statesmen. They were talking about one of them had to hire someone to come get a busted light bulb socket end out of the receipticle. He was ranting and raving about the charge his wife had to pay....to get it removed... As we were leaving I leaned over and in the group and explained what tool is really handy for doing it himself and saving 60 bucks worth of labor and left.. I explained to them the tool was called external snap ring pliers to enlarge the ring which was on the outside of a shaft to keep the gears or what ever in one place on a shaft.... This was about three weeks ago and yesterday we were back in the same McDonalds and this guy waved at me to come over there.... He shook my hand and said from no on we will change those bulbs themselves and would bequest half of the cost each time a bulb broke off and left the socket end in there.... He went on to say no money would be given but the thought would be extended toward me so I could buy my wife some flowers or something..He didn't even pay for my senior coffee.... May 18, 20179 yr Popular Post I've heard that cutting a potato in half and jamming it into the socket will grip the bulb parts and help remove it. You're supposed to turn the power off first- unless you want french fries
May 18, 20179 yr I would have buy a potato, but that was what I always heard too was the spud trick. I do have a set of those pliers tho, hadn't heard of that one before. Didn't know they would spread that far, I will have to try it.
May 18, 20179 yr Author Yep they will spread enough for the regular size bulbs. Its usually where heat has made the bulbs come apart... I would check to see if the ones a person is looking at will spread far enough to cover all the bulbs most houses has.....
May 18, 20179 yr Popular Post My thoughts on this Jess, is if the guy is so clueless that he can't get a lightbulb out I would wonder if he would have enough common sense to turn the power off... Secondly, what are they doing to have so many broken bulbs? I have had maybe 3 or 4 in my lifetime break off like that. I have always just used a pair of needlenose pliers to get that out. True story - one day at work my good friend (and assistant)... I caught him trying to unplug the paper shredder. He had one hand up underneath trying to tug at the paper while with his other hand he was toggling the switch back & forth trying to get the paper to move in either direction! I did give him a quick safety lesson - on the spot. Cal

Senior coffee is that which has been on the warmer for more than 65 minutes and been more than 65 days since the brewer was cleaned. I visited a Starbucks for the first time ever about a month ago. I felt like I was in an alien world. Bewildered, I asked for a "small black decaf." The barista responded, "We'll have to do a pour over, is that OK?" "Um, yes, I guess," not knowing what exactly it meant (pour hot water over a cone filter that sits on your cup -- got one of those at home. When done, she asked, "Do you need room?" Looking a bit puzzled I guess, "Do you need room in the top for cream?" she asked. "Um, no thanks," wondering just what "black decaf" must have meant to her. No longer a starbucks virgin, but still have no idea what a half-caf, soy, grande with a splash of vanilla means.
May 18, 20179 yr Fresh ground beans in our maker and then to an insulated mug. With one exception, most gas station coffees around here aren't strong enough. The one exception is a mom and pop place and, they like real coffee, too.
May 18, 20179 yr Have to admit, 3 things I've never done: bought a lottery ticket (guess that makes the odds of winning very low), went to an NFL game, or been in a Starbucks. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing, but $5-6 for a cup of coffee seems a little silly (as does the price of a ticket for an NFL game).
May 18, 20179 yr Having done all three, you're not missing nuttin. I'll never pay for another NFL ticket or coffee in Starbucks. I'll still buy a lottery ticket now and then. No worse investment than wormy mesquite.
May 18, 20179 yr Ever since I heard that Starbucks was wanting to hire a bunch of "immigrants" they get the bird from me, not my business (also, I have not bought anything from them in about 15 years). I have gone to 2 NFL games - Got to see Dan Marino play and a game in Candlestick Park. I will buy an occasional lottery ticket - sometimes, I like to dream BIG
