May 16, 20179 yr Popular Post comment_109687 at least I hope they are. I had mentioned in an earlier post I was having trouble getting an estimate to drywall my shop. To update the situation, so far I have called 8 contractors and asked if they were interested. at this point 3 have actually showed up and one excused himself saying he couldn't get the help he needed to do it. For the other 2, one guy gave me an estimate on the spot. He figured how many 8' sheets it would take, multiplied it by his rate and had a number that was about 50% more than I was expecting. I have no idea what this should cost, but I had guessed it was a $5-6K job. His estimate was $9100, and at this point was the only estimate I had. The remaining guy who was here had actually e mailed me an estimate and I had somehow missed it. Turns out his estimate was right at the $5000 mark. I accepted his proposal. I'm in the last half of July for installation. But I'm still cautious, waiting to see hi mshow up. I have accepted proposals before (to have my last house resided) and the guy never did show up (despite 3 promises over the summer he would be there). But this drywall guy was recommended by 2 GCs that have used him, so I'm hopeful. Report

May 16, 20179 yr comment_109712 That's real good news. If a GC recommended him, he's likely good and keeps his word. Unreliable subs last about as long as a snow ball in....Arizona. Report
May 17, 20179 yr comment_109735 Good to hear Fred...I don't think it would be a nuisance by calling or emailing him in 3-4 week intervals just to see if things are still on track for the scheduled date. Then again one final time about 7-10 days ahead of the promise date. FWIW...my Report
May 17, 20179 yr Author comment_109750 One thing about it, when I asked about payment both guys who gave me an estimate said the same thing: "we get paid when we're done". So I won't be out any money, but I'm still cautious about getting it done. the less expensive estimate did not include a vapor barrier or prime coat (the expensive one did) but I'll figure that out separately.
