May 9, 20179 yr I got some metal roofing today to build a cover for a sandbox I'm building. I got some matching screws and now wonder if they're the right thing. Specifically, in which part of the roofing do you put the screws, in the ribs or the valleys? I got 1" screws and wonder if they're long enough to go through the high points. signed, not a roofing guy https://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/roofing-soffits-gutters/steel-roofing/precut-pro-rib-steel-panel/p-1444448585601-c-5717.htm?tid=7023034229249875650
May 9, 20179 yr It depends on what you are screwing the screws in to,metal or wood. Either one has a good rubber gasket but the one for metal perlins has a better cutting edge like a drill bit. I put the screws in the flat area that will correspond to the flat area that will lay on the perlins. The screws for going into 2x's is just a tapered point.
May 9, 20179 yr This picture has the point like what we used. Except the pic is a 2". We went into 5/8 ply over rafters.

Well, I asked about this and for this particular roofing, they only have a soft foam that is designed to keep out insects and such. https://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/roofing-soffits-gutters/specialty-roofing/mr-12-inside-foam-closure-strip/p-1444424082804-c-5819.htm?tid=-4636989507126081100 When i've used fiberglass wavy board before, I used what I think you are calling "wiggle board." https://www.menards.com/main/building-materials/roofing-soffits-gutters/specialty-roofing/ondura-reg-vented-closure-strips-4-pk/p-1444444725555-c-5819.htm?tid=-4636989507126081100 Maybe that's why they had 1" screws?
