May 7, 20179 yr Popular Post Been busy finishing up the basement family room/bar. When we moved here here 12 years ago, I told my wife, "the basement is mine, the upstairs is yours, I won't tell you how to decorate upstairs and you won't tell me how to do the basement" and we've adhered to that. Since the last time I've posted I have made the 3 built in cabinets, and the barn doors that encloses the utility room and her crafting/sewing room. The basement was unfinished when we moved here, so I took into account the built in cabinets when I framed and drywalled it. I am contemplating putting 1 way glass doors on the cabinets. The circular peice on the floor in one of the pics is the base for the bar, which is the next phase of the project. I still have more Miller signs and lights to put up, not to mention about 15 of the Miller wildlife series of mirrors. The swinging doors with the curves on top are the bathroom. YES I am an old bar rat! but not any more, more fun to stay home and work on this kind of stuff. Edited December 5, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added
May 7, 20179 yr Author Does anyone have opinions on a ventless gas insert for the stove, I've read both good and bad things about them, it would only be used when we're down here lounging, and not used to heat the upstairs?
May 7, 20179 yr We have a small ventless propane "fireplace" in our dining room. Never been a problem, although, it does add moisture to the room. Ours is from Buck Stoves- http://www.buckstove.com/gas-stoves.html
May 7, 20179 yr If its propane I don't think I would use it in a basement. You just might end up with nothing covering the hole the basement sits in.
May 7, 20179 yr Liking everything you've accomplished. I'm especially liking the toilet paper holder. But wait....it's next to the urinal. Might have misinterpreted it's function.

May 7, 20179 yr Nice job finishing the basement. Why one way glass on the cabinets. Do you get the cleaning duties for your cave?
May 8, 20179 yr Nice work Kenny. Re: the gas stove insert. We had a ventless gas fireplace insert. It threw out some heat, but the house always smelled for days afterwards. I was very happy to get rid of it. Replaced it with an electric insert. Cal
May 8, 20179 yr I've never encouraged open combustion in an enclosed space, particularly a buried one: less leakage, more carbon monoxide. "Probably ok", but why take a chance? Electric is cleaner. Put in a solar system. Am I the only one thinking the position of the beer sign right over the urinal is appropriate?
May 8, 20179 yr Gas heaters need ventilation to the outside. There's one in my shop and a window is always partially open. I'm scared of the carbon monoxide.
May 8, 20179 yr Good job, Kind of reminds me of the old song",Gonna Hire me a wino to decorate my home",( not in an offensive way, please). Herb
May 10, 20179 yr Bathroom is way cool! I really like the look of your barn doors too! Very fitting for the area. I also like the detail on your baseboard...gives dimension and provides a bump rail. Great idea! Where do I sign-up to keep following along? Looking forward to seeing the bar build & install. Edited May 10, 20179 yr by Grandpadave52
