May 5, 20179 yr Popular Post So, I am working on this huge humidor for a fellow.... The piece of quilted maple I ordered was perfect for the task.... but, alas, the vendor called and said he forgot to update his website.... and sent me a piece about 4" shorter than what I needed.... although, he sent 5/4 versus 4/4....so, there's that..... Box was ordered at 30"x14"x10".....problem was....there wasn't enough quilted maple left to fill the lid hole due to the replacement being not quite what I needed... Anyways, the lid panel was wide enough, but 4" short.... so, being the wood was 5/4, I was able to resaw to book match (the long way) and yield a 1/2" thick panel..... I used epoxy at the butt joint for the glue up. Well, I didn't like the glue line being front and center on the lid.... so, I thought I would embelish by inlaying a 1/8" strip of walnut.... that helped......but, thought it would look better with the horizontal inlay as well..... So, does that qualify as stretching a board? I'm not quite sure how I like it yet....but, it's better than a glue line..... getting the right piece that I ordered from the vendor would have been the best situation.... May 5, 20179 yr I'd say you hit it perfectly! The lid lines accent the the corner splines and box trim. Only you will know the real story!

May 5, 20179 yr I guess what counts is the customer's opinion, but I really think it worked out nice!
May 5, 20179 yr That looks good to me. I like the idea of "hiding" the glue line with the inlay. Awesome Job and Idea!!
May 6, 20179 yr Great idea to get out of a tough situation. You are the Humidor Master if there ever was one. I sure like your work. Herb

Well, maybe you and a few hundred of your "closest" friends!!! I think it looks fantastic Ed; and the walnut strips in the lid add to, not detract from, the piece. I shall keep that technique for future use myself... Cal Edited May 6, 20179 yr by clhyer
