Flag cases

I just completed two flag cases to be given to the families of two local veterans. One was a high school classmate who was a career Marine and did two tours in Vietnam. He came home and became a Marine recruiter until retiring. He passed away recently from stroke complications. The second one is for his brothers flag. He died in Vietnam in 1965 and the family never had a case for his flag. The wood is recycled red oak from a local schoolhouse that is being renovated.5900f7b27446b_flags004.JPG.cae24b411d17e24cc93cc8df853a7bac.JPG

Nice!

Well done Joe. I make them also and they hold a special place in my heart.

Kudos to you Joe for this work. Great cause for use of the recycled schoolhouse oak. Thanks for caring and sharing!

Very nice, well done!

I second what everyone has said, beautiful pieces!

Something I've always wondered is how to people cut the miter angles on the bottom two angles.   Most miter saws don't go that far.   I'm wondering if a tenoning jig on a table saw with the blade at a slight angle.  Curious minds want to know.

Yes, that's exactly how it's done. With the blade at 22,5 it gives you the 67.5 angle you need.

Great Job!!

Wood published a plan that didn't need those steep angles. It was more or  less of a butt joint on the bottom.

I have tried it both ways Fred but the 22.5 degree corner looks cleaner to me.
