April 22, 20179 yr On the way to picking up the GrandBRATS, stopped in a store in Brandt, OH. walked past a bunch of shelves, filled with tools of all sorts. Well, at least the added on room to the store...Found one item I could afford today, that I didn't already have Price was marked as a dollar. Carried it around while checking the other Treasures...decided to pay for this and head on down the road.. Handed the fellow four quarters, and he gave me back one...handle was a bit dried out, ferrel was steel.. got back home, and took this rusty mess to the shop for a bit of rehab....took a while, but.. It does look a little bit better...Handle was given a wipe-on, wipe-off coat of the Witch's Brew.. Didn't want to sand the handle, too many details on it. Bevel WAS a bit crooked, got that fixed..I hope.. Maybe? $0.75 gouge? Might just do...
April 24, 20179 yr Author Think I may have found a clue as to who made this gouge.....as I have a Buck Brothers 3/8" chisel with the same style of handle....just not as large. 1" gouge has a steel, the 3'8" firmer chisel has a brass ferrel. All else is the same. Buck Brothers? No, not the ones at Home despot, these were before that store was begun.
