April 17, 20179 yr I posted a few weeks ago that we "rescued" some walnut. We started into it this weekend....
April 17, 20179 yr Author I was doing battle with a piece of Marble Wood... really, really tough Thomas (our plant manager) was into the walnut.... what a beautiful piece. The colors from light brown to dark chocolate and purple. Of course the wet wood turned like a dream. It's back in the bag to dry for a while, but yeah, beautiful and fun.
April 17, 20179 yr It's going to be a pretty bowl, walnut grain is awesome. In case you've never turned wet walnut before here's a heads up. Immediately when you're done, clean your ways and spray them down, I use wd-40. It's also a good idea to check other machined surfaces in your shop as well. Where there's a shaving there will be corrosion. Steve

April 17, 20179 yr Been there done that, experimented with some wet wood awhile back, it turned to firewood of course, but I just wanted to get the feeling of wet shavings and how easy it is to turn, it was joy, and nice and cool too! It was a hot summer day, and I remember the coolness of the blank as it was spinning and throwing back cool shavings on my arms, I could of stood there all day, like an air conditioner! Back to the point, but yep, I was ignorant, and I didn't clean up well, and lo and behold, I was cleaning rust spots for a month after. Live and learn!
