Purchased a roll of this a while back for some project.  Cheap, made in USA...

Have not found anything yet that it will stick to.  Tried to tape a couple pieces of insulation together yesterday, Kraft paper - would not even stick to paper!

I just looked at the Lowes website for a review of this product.  Several reviews, unanimous 1 star.

I guess you get what you pay for.

You suppose the card-board liner is what is made in the U.S.A. versus the tape. I also read on the inside "Distributed by ShurTechBrands, LLC, Avon, OH....IDK...from their Brands listing, I'm surprised there is an issue but maybe some bad ones got out..Contact them directly Cal and see how they might handle the issue.

I may do that just for sport Dave.  Be awhile though, I have a pretty full plate right now.

Dave, I took a minute and sent off a message to ShurTech.  My message:

I have a roll of "Project Source" duct tape which I purchased from Lowes.
The inner liner states that it is distributed by ShurTech Brands.
I just want to relay to you that this is the worst excuse for tape that I have ever used.  Fact is, I have had this tape some few months and have tried it for several projects; I have not found anything, nada, zip, zilch, that this will stick to.
Thank you for letting me vent this,
Cal Hyer

I will let you know if I get a response!

I've never found Duct tape to be a good choice for taping to the craft paper on insulation. I usually opt for aluminum tape for this application. That said, I don't doubt your  experience with the duct tape. Anxious to see if you get a response. I've also noticed that when duct tape is exposed to higher temperatures in the summer, the adhesive gets gooey, then dries up and looses its adhesion.

Isn't that non stick tape for when you don't want to stick anything?

Not one to give up on a purchase, I'd be inclined to spray the paper with 3M 77 before applying the tape. :D

I'd be inclined to have a product that works as advertised and not have to monkey w/ or let go to waste...

I've had a similar experience with cheap duct tape. When we switched from electric baseboards to oil-fired central heat, I bought a roll of tape and wrapped all the joints in the ducting. A week later, all the tape was hanging off or had fallen down completely, Since I was a purchaser for the company stock room, I got a roll from one of the salesmen that visited regularly, and THAT stuff sticks like you wouldn't believe! You need a jackhammer to get it off!!!

Sorry Cal...missed the Edit follow-up...I can only give you one Like but if I could give more I certainly would have. I'll be anxious to see their response (if any) but honestly will be surprised if they don't acknowledge your complaint. Keep us updated...I have purchased some of their Duck, Frog & T-Rex brands albeit from Home Depot and all performed well.

To be honest, the "stickiest" duct tape I have is a roll I picked up at H-F on sale. That roll I expected to perform like yours after having through last summer in the heat/humidity. It still works great...Go figure...

The warranty of merchantability is implied, unless expressly disclaimed by name, or the sale is identified with the phrase "as is" or "with all faults." To be "merchantable", the goods must reasonably conform to an ordinary buyer's expectations, i.e., they are what they say they are. For example, a fruit that looks and smells good but has hidden defects would violate the implied warranty of merchantability if its quality does not meet the standards for such fruit "as passes ordinarily in the trade". In Massachusetts consumer protection law, it is illegal to disclaim this warranty on household goods sold to consumers etc.

No law can replace the common sense admonition Caveat Emptor.

Nevertheless, non stick tape is an abomination.

For shame Lowes, for shame.
