March 23, 20179 yr Popular Post Lots of great stuff posted here in the Woodturners' Forum this week! I don't do many segmented turnings. One things that's been a problem for me is having a way to clamp up the segments. That's all changed after watching this video of a deceptively simple shop made clamp- We have an on-going discussion about sitting down while turning. Member Ron first posed the question and he has gotten lots of feedback and suggestions. You can read the entire thread here- Ron should win a prize this week for the most threads posted! He posted his shop made lathe dust hood. It is a real winner! The new dust hood must have come in handy when Ron turned a Banksia Seed pod. His post on the turning is here- Ron wasn't the only turner busy this week. Member Steve is busy mass producing Honey Dippers. Read bout this undertaking here- Several members of the Woodturners' Forum crate really beautiful Christmas ornaments. I received an email from Mr. David Reed Smith and he has published an article that might be useful to the ornament turners. He demonstrates how to turn a cap for round glass/plastic decorations. As always, Mr. Smith's articles are thoroughly documented. Even if you don't intend to turn these, there is a wealth of information on jigs and procedures in the article. http://www.davidreedsmith.com/Articles/CapOrnament/CapOrnament.html. The latest Woodcraft Magazine (April/May 2017) arrived this week. There is a nice article about "Cast Resin Turning". While this might not be for everyone, it is an interesting process and produces some fascinating turnings. Safe Turning
March 23, 20179 yr Another well done Wednesday's episode of "As the Wood Turns" Lew. It has been an active week in this forum with information even we "flat-landers" find useful. I've learned more about wood turning from this forum since I came to the TPW in September than 30+ years of reading magazines. I really enjoy the weekly Wednesday's Wisdom feature. Thanks!
