I think I had a senior moment

Out in the shop tonight cutting the back of the clock board for the movement and room for the pendulum to swing.

I first cut out for the movement and I thought  while I have the router depth set go ahead and route out for the pendulum...Duh

I was watching as the bit cut through the other side. Hey I says to myself, I think the pendulum depth should have been reset for 5/8 of an inch and not 7/8 of an inch where the movement will go...

Well after seeing the one goof I thought why not cut one on the other side to match so what ever I do to solve my problem it might look like I planed it..

It seem like these senior moments comes more often than they use to.

I was really tired for I worked on my water falls all day long and got the lake water pump for the yard and ponds all good to go..Usually when winter is coming on I screw around and don't winterize all that crap that might freeze but this time I only had one  sprinkler freeze and bust. I build my own sprinkler bases out of pvc pipe and I left one leaning up against a tree and it trapped water in the closed ends and busted to caps off. The lake pump works great if 6 sprinklers are going at the same time. Any less and the pump goes on and off way too often. All six going and the pump runs all the time... Cheaper and less wear and tear on the submersible pump. The bad part it only freezes three or four nights each winter.

Well Patch, sorry it happened but it makes me feel better about all the mistakes I make so your error is not wasted.:D What about routing out a little more where you can lay a build-up patch (no pun intended) or strip of contrasting color wood in place...then from the face side it will look like you intended for some sort of inlay? We'll never tell that wasn't in your original design so no one will be the wiser.;)

As for getting only 3 or 4 nights of freezing all winter, you don't have to rub that in...sometimes we have 3 or 4 nights of freezing in just one winter night here.:P

You're making a pendulum clock and the pendulum is not going to be visible?  Or am I missing something?

The pendulum consists of a shaft and a bob. I normally only show the bob on this type of build. Was cutting out for the shaft to have room to swing and only have the bob showing past the clock. I have done some like this but was planed with the extra carving. No big deal, I'll do something.IMG_8810.JPG.11e5eb8c9c48cf7e834d3e4cba0e018f.JPG

Anxiously awaiting the results of your creative mind.

Easier to see in the whole picture.

it's not a mistake, it's a design feature.

I'm sure it will look fine when you get done with it.

Hey.. You could get some fake mice to put in each hole and have the head sticking out.

Hickory dickory dock the mouse ran up the clock. :D
