March 15, 20179 yr Popular Post Its starting to look better with the body angled down to make it look like the carvings have been raised. Just ruffed in with the belt sander 40 grit. After I make sure enough have been removed then I'll sand it a little smoother.. These are the pieces I traced around and you can see it really don't matter what or how the carving were made as long as they are smooth to the touch.. I like to buy the long carvings and cut them up for the short pieces are easier to fit in somewhere.. You can see where the header came from . Also I had to extend the two I used on the bottom for they were too short. I keep grinding away on the body until the inside of the carvings sticks up enough. Now if I can glue the pieces back where they were cut from maybe it will look like someone went to a lot of trouble carving it all while it was still one piece of wood..Wow,doing it that way I would still be carving on this piece next year... I did attach a backer board before I cut the outside of the carvings so it can be reattached when everything is colored and finished to have a place to glue them in... I just ordered some movements and after I reviewed what I ordered I might be in trouble for the movement will be 1/2" from the front of the movement and the way I taper the front downward, I am afraid to measure to see where the pendulum will be sticking through in the bottom..It can stick through the carving pieces but not where the carving starts to curve inward.... I will have to lay a straight edge down across where the dial will be attached and see... Oh I went cheap and didn't order what I usually put in this type of build.....It just means I will have 4 20 dollar movements on hand and reorder the 49 dollar buggers.. Okay, whats someone confused about?????????
