February 24, 20179 yr I got a Banksia seed pod for my birthday. It appears to be very hard and looks like a fuzz under the outer layer. I'm sure someone here has turned some. I'd appreciate any tips anyone can contribute. I looked at some images of finished work and saw that some were turned inside. How would you hold something like that to turn/drill out the inside? Sure looks strange and very challenging.
February 24, 20179 yr I have had one of those for years. Came with a lathe I bought. Can't wait to see what you do with yours. Maybe I'll be inspired to do mine.
February 25, 20179 yr Author I'm old school. For many years my elderly neighbor was my source for all woodworking info. He was truly a master. When I wanted advise on how to turn this thing, I went to this forum. I never even thought about videos. Another DUH moment for me

Another DUH moment for me We all have those "duh" moments Ron...glad you chose to ask here first...always great input plus we all learn from the question even if we don't turn. "til I read your post, I'd never heard of a Banksia pod/nut let alone ever consider turning it. Thanks for "learning" me something new today
