Saturday's Woodworking Quiz February 11 2017

Featured Replies

Good Morning Friends,

Well another Saturday has arrived and time for the quiz; This one is for you turners and anyone else who can answer it. How does one stop end grain bowl blowout? Pictures would be nice.

Sharp tools and shear scraping go a long way at minimizing end grain tear out.

I have a good solution:  I don't turn bowls.

When hollowing end grain I have the work piece mounted in chuck so there is a tenon on the bottom.Outside is shaped and sanded. While hollowing the inside use a measuring device or laser to check thickness of the bottom. When inside is to proper depth and side walls set the piece is reversed and tenon cut off so no danger of going thru the bottom.
