Lith Ion Got Wet

Featured Replies

Accidentally left Rigid cordless lithium ion drill out and it rained on it. Ruined battery. Anyone know anything I can do to bring it back to life? I put a heat gun to it to try to dry it out after all the water drained out. Called Batteries Plus; they don't rebuild them, but they could order one for $139.00. I ordered a used one from Ebay, and it arrived today. It was in a box the exact size to fit the battery, and it had a small scratch on it, and for $30.00 I think I got a better deal. It was charged up and ran well. Sure would like to learn how to rebuild one, but lithium ion seems to have some problems a backyard bum would not be able to overcome. Anybody tried to do this?

what does the lifetime warranty people say???

I rebuilt one for my PC . Watched a youtube and the battery cost 18. If you do this get the battery with tabs and it will be much easier. Make sure you assemble it the same way the old one was set up and that small diode in the old one is there for a purpose (don't know what tho) so put in back. The build was not that bad just a little anxious since was the first.

Thanks, Gerald, where did you get the battery/batteries?

Stick, I bought a stack of Rigid and Craftsman cordless from an employee of Ryobi for $120.00. I figure she either stole them or got a super deal. All were new: Three drills, two impacts, one jigsaw, three saws that has blade sticking out the end, three battery chargers, and a big carrying case. Didn't get warranty, but still got a fairly decent deal, don't you think? That was almost three years ago. The Rigid saws all broke, but still got two Craftsman left.

You will probably need a security torx to open the side of the battery case to see what's in it...   what's your volt rating?   That will determine how many cells you will need to order.   You may want to check that the inside is actually dry and then try charging it again.  My 24V ones have 5 of those screws in the one side.

They are 18 volts. Where can I buy the batteries? According to YouTube, you can just replace the bad ones, but I would prefer to replace them all.

I will have to see if I have the invoice . I think it was either Global or MTO

By the way you will want to open the battery pack and see what kind of batteries they are. Some are C cell size and some AA
