This my first try at a project using my butter knife too. I used Maple with a band of Yellow Hart.  It was going to be a prototype, but I think I'll go ahead and finish it.

    I found a great way to enhance the stutter. Turn it to the desired shape. Do not sand it much or at all.

    While it is in the lathe and secure (not turning) I took my hand drill with a stiff wire brush and went back and forth while hand turning. That opened up some of the softer grain and made the stutter happen easier and deeper.

    I'll keep experimenting and let you know the progress. I have several other ideas in mind.
