January 19, 20179 yr I missed the PPE and guards. Impressive work done. I wonder where all those saws went.. Doubt if OSHA would approve now, but we would probably have a robot do all that cutting, lifting and toting...

January 20, 20179 yr My son has his Grandfather's saw. I remember it as being LOUD and SCARY! I was around 10 years old when my Dad was ripping a board and it kicked back and sent the board out thru the garage door. My Dad just shook his head and went onto the next one.

Didn't he send you to bring it back? Herb
January 20, 20179 yr Popular Post I wanna know where they got all that good looking lumber. Amazing the difference between then and now.
January 20, 20179 yr Pretty Cool! I love all the "jigs" they used to help them speed up the repetitive cuts and such. A few shots showed some knots in the wood - rare for that time. Edited January 20, 20179 yr by Chips N Dust

January 21, 20179 yr Richard...thanks for posting this...I enjoyed it tremendously. Makes you stop and think the war effort was more than just building planes, tanks, ships and ammo...easy to overlook the importance and need for this type of support. Very, very interesting. I did wonder what/how they handled & moved all the cut-offs that had to accumulate in a short period of time. I guessed it might have been transported & stored to be used as a heating source for some of the barracks & training facilities???
January 21, 20179 yr I remember my earlier years working at the shipyard. The teak decking on the old fleet type subs would be removed and discarded in the shipyard dump.
January 27, 20179 yr Popular Post Thanks for posting that video Richard, it brought back some memories. I spent the first two years of my WW career running one of those bad boys in a production shop back in the 60's. If OSHA was around then we would have been shut down.
