January 5, 20179 yr I got that arbortek thing mini grinder. Call it a birthday present to myself. And I can't rally say why but later I ended up on the Craft Supplies web site eyeballing a set of expanded jaws for my Vicmark to hold reversed bowls and such to turn the bottom Then I was eyeballing a longworth chuck. Started thinking I should get the biggest I can fit The Limit on RPM bothered me. It's for turning the bottom of a bowl dag-nabbit I don't wanna be limited to 600 RPM and what I'm turning a smaller bowl than my capacity and it's just phenolic so if I drop it, it'll be toast. Besides I'm already using a Doughnut home made rig. So I decide that's what I'll stick with. I can center work on it just fine and I can make as many sizes as I want with almost no effort; so that's that. But then I got into the eccentric chuck. Looked at a few videos of the work you can do on it and didn't like any of it. But I got a better idea I have a wild idea. It starts with some heavy steel plate a 5" steel ball and some welding and work. I think I'll prototype it first in wood. The idea is to hold work at wild angles Maybe I can do it without the steel ball. I do like the idea of the steel ball through it's kind of macho.
January 5, 20179 yr Sounds like a plan. Can't wait to see it. Don't go too wild with it or you will be chasing the lathe around the shop if it isn't bolted down.
