Hand cut and chiseled box joint

Featured Replies

Nothing exciting just sharing what is on my bench and what is going. I am trying to teach myself woodworking and hand craft. The attached photos are of box joints I am hand cutting. The box joint will be used in a drawer I am making for my table saw to catch the saw dust.

In addition to this box joints, I had to make a jug to hold the work. Further, I sharpened up my tools. It is amazing how easy things are when tools are sharp.

I sharpened my chisels to 2,000 grit wet-dry.

Alright ACR...great start both on the project and your PIP.

Appears you've officially acquired the woodworking bug...sorry no vaccine or known cure...your best bet is continue therapy within this colony with the rest of us for a tip now and then how to control the illness.

Clever solution with your jig too. I like it. Thanks for sharing

WOW! Getting those crisp edges on MDf means you really have the chisel sharpening down pat!

Cuts like butter. The joints are not perfect but it's a learning experience.

An excellent exercise, and well done.

I envy you! I myself am a perfectionist. Unless I can envision the entire procedure from beginning to end, I will not start it.To this day, I have never hand-cut a dovetail or box joint, because it MAY not turn out perfect! But the folks on this forum give me inspiration, and one of these days I WILL build a simple project using those procedures. The first one (or so) may well be firewood, though.
