December 24, 20169 yr Popular Post I have always been fascinated by the "Louis Cube" pattern and thought I'd try a little bit of an "extreme" version on one of my boxes.... I wanted to incorporate the pattern in to an inlay surround to match the top. I had a fellow with a laser cut the 1/4" diamonds (30 degrees x 60 degrees) and 1/8" thick of the three species that I used. Birch, Mahogany & Walnut. Then I cut several dados in a substrate to give me a platform and a template to lay out and glue up what I needed... and then..... I got busy. I think I timed it out at 8 minutes per inch to glue these little buggers in place.... total of 56" needed and I probably did about 20" more than required (just to be safe. Once I got them all glued up and in place, I trimmed down to fit in the dado that I cut in the box... Don't know if I'll ever do this again, it was one of those things that just had to be done, though.... Thanks for looking.
December 24, 20169 yr One of your most awesome humidors yet...they just get better and better. My eyes would be crossed if I tried to do that.

December 24, 20169 yr Oh my goodness...I'm not qualified nor have words in my vocabulary to adequately describe this great piece let alone your great patience to create the inlay. I haven't bought or smoked a cigar in decades, but owning this might make it tempting. Please post this in the Gallery for everyone to enjoy. Thanks for sharing
December 24, 20169 yr Thank goodness for the guy with the laser! Fantastic results on the humidor! How did you keep the glue from sticking in the substrate dados?

Thanks, I just glued about an inch at a time. Once that was used up, I slathered in another inch or so of glue... I wanted it to stick. I, then, milled it down from the back side using my drum sander, leaving about 1/8" of substrate. It was tedious. Edited December 24, 20169 yr by Waxing Moon
December 24, 20169 yr I wish Matt was here to see this. Awesome ! It's just a box, but WOW , such a beautiful work of art. I don't smoke at all, but I'd be proud to have this box just for display in my home

December 24, 20169 yr Ed, is that a commissioned piece or will it be for sale to the public? (maybe it's for you??)

(maybe it's for you??) well, i had a customer that, over time, bought 5 humidors. I couldn't justify the time involved as it relates to dollars, so I gifted it to him. Incidentally, he just ordered another a week ago.
December 26, 20169 yr That was really generous of you,Ed. I would have kept it around awhile just to look at it. What a beautiful piece of work, and such small detail too leave me breathless. I think that is a first on the size of those cubes. Never seen any that small. Great job, Herb
