December 21, 20169 yr Popular Post OK lets start a new topic. How many of you scroll plexiglass as a project in place of wood or even as accent pieces??? I am sure many have done it with ornaments. Lets see the projects. Also there was a person and now my memory is not what it use to be but scrolled plexiglass and frosted it somehow and I think they just sanded it but it looked sharp. Does anyone know who that was?? have some new ideas that maybe nice to try this coming winter. So lets fill this thread up with examples. Also while we are at it lets give the blade we use and also any tricks or tips to do this. If anyone has any particular patterns they want to share using this technique lets see them and please share. Thanks for the input.
December 21, 20169 yr Well, some time ago, I transfered some pictures of a wedding couple to plexi and cut them out. Found out that it likes to melt. Switched to lexan. Problem solved. Later, I found that, if you leave the protective paper on the plexi, it doesn't melt. Later I did our sons' graduation pictures. It was all in vain, though. No one liked my silhouettes. Made some snowflake ornaments that were acceptable, though.
December 21, 20169 yr Thanks for the post JT, I have never been too successful with plexiglass. I will be checking in for how to do it! Cal
December 21, 20169 yr I have had little luck scrolling with Plexiglas so tend to stay away from it. A few years back I acquired some pvc cut-offs that I used for snowflakes as well. Read a thread on scrollsawvillage that used mirrored plexi as a backer which added a little flair to the project. I use a panel blade on my table saw, seems to help with the chipping.
December 22, 20169 yr When cutting the "banks", I use plexie for the windows. Leave the paper on or cover with "blue tape" and then glue the pattern on. I have the best luck stack cutting 2 at a time using a 5R blade. Cutting quick so as not to build up too much heat keeps it from melting back together.
