Veterans Apprenticeship

Happy Holidays!

How many of you Master Woodworkers have a Santa's Workshop? Do you make any wooden toy gifts? That Great!

How many woodworkers here remember old country stories about the woodworking trade apprenticeships? My grandfather was apprenticed carpentry in Finland sometime @1870's. He then emigrated to the States and went on to volunteer for the Spanish American War. Later on he built the home I grew up in. His own home built with his sons!

There are those State sponsored certificate trades programs available if young Combat Veterans are curious to seek them out.

Here in NE Ohio I drew up a plan of support, IRS has since approved us as a 501C19 SVO. It's for returning Combat Veterans seeking skill trades in woodworking. Here I donated 35,000 bdft hardwood lumber for launching programing at the Wisen Woodworking School. Do you happen to know a returning Combat Veteran who might be interested? Their GIBILL will cover vocational tuition fees as they apply for apprenticeship positions. More as things develop.

Photos here last fall, transport of 5/4 hardwood lumber gently solar dried. Was making ready for transport to Wisen Woodworking School in Painesville Ohio

AWESOME

That's great. Wonderful donation to a worthy cause.

Absolutely awesome donation and information. Hope we can get this out to returning veterans who might have an interest.

Great news about the GI Bill involvement, too! I used mine for my teaching degree.

Fantastic, project, I am all for it, what a wonderful thing to do. You are one in  a million to do such a thing.  I found out that if a person learns a trade he will never be out of work. I did my apprenticeship as a carpenter and never drew one day of unemployment, and my wife never worked we had 4 children.

What a generous donation to a worthy and needed cause. Blessings to you for such kindness.

Thanks for taking time to provide the resource information.

 Great idea.

Wow, what a deal, what a  shop, what a stack of lumber, must be in heaven.

Thanks Dadio

Dennis Wisen is the shop owner. He has vocational woodworking trades teaching credentials. We are working out the details soon, to provide small structured classes in basic woodworking. S2S Veterans Mission would encourage curriculum drafting design in those college acedemic classes.

One possible advanced focus would be CAD prototype for mfg and interior installations. Our first installation might be to finish this coffee shop interior. https://goo.gl/photos/TAjEwwmVQVtJjsoTA
