Would Anybody Have Interest in Bidding on a Project?

Featured Replies

One of my previous customers, who is in the Air Force, has asked me if I could build a shadow box display table for an outgoing service member in his unit.

Although, it looks fairly straight forward and I would love to do it.... I simply don't have the time as my schedule is booked up for a while.....

If you're interested.... go ahead and send the fellow an email.  His name is Hector and hs email is hdsraptor@gmail.com

He is located in Las Vegas....but, he will cover shipping if necessary.

There is a *.pdf file attached for reference as well as *.jpg.

I have no vested interest in this, just trying to help iut a friend.

looks similar to a coffee table i built last year, except for the hinged top.  if i were to bid, which i have no plans to do, if i made that out of oak, there's at least $400 worth of lumber in that alone.  add the glass, hardware, you are looking at $600 in materials before you make your first mistake.  so if you wanted to make that, and make a small profit for your Cheetos fund, you'd bid at least $2500.  i'd bid about $4000.

what you say?!  hey, handmade, one off items are really nice, but they aren't cheap.

this coffee table is also 48 long, 18 deep, 18 high.  2 drawers, a top, and a shelf.  same basic idea, just have the drawers set lower in mine.  this took me about 2 weeks to make, all traditional mortise and tenon joinery, top is QSWO, drawers are dovetailed.  heavy sucker.

good luck.

Christmas crunch in progress.  Everyone is busy I'm sure.

Is there a deadline?

the hard part of making large projects for buyers who don't live nearby is figuring out how to safely get them from your shop to the owner's place.  safest way is to drive the item there yourself.  but will the buyer pay for me to do that?  time, gas/mileage, meals, hotels (if it's not near)....that adds up quickly.  hiring it out can be problematic.  who are you going to entrust this to?  what if it gets lost or damaged?  did you get insurance (yeah, you get some money back, but how do you reclaim  your lost time in making it?).

Phoenix?  that's an 8 hour drive from me.  come get it when it's done.  i'll put you up in my guesthouse, we'll feed you and give you a shop tour.  even help you load it.  after it's on your truck, it's not my problem anymore.

This is a wonderful project if anyone is interested, please email Hector at hdsraptor@gmail.com and hash out the needs and details with the source, thanks Waxing Moon for allowing us the opportunity to work on this! Looks fun!

as i noted above, my bid would likely result in him not accepting the bid.  maybe I'm wrong, but few military guys are overpaid and have too much money left at the end of the month/year.  maybe a general could afford this.

I made contact with Hector, I'll see if I can help him out. I'll let ya'll know how it works out!

oops, Las Vegas...that's even further (unless it's Las Vegas, NM, then that's only a hour away).  still.....
