Art business

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I love to do artworks with wood. I paint on the wooden surface and make art. I am doing business with it too. My shop is not famous around our area that we don't have many customers. I am planning to do campaigns for my shop but I don't think if we have  enough budget to do so. But I read an article http://www.grassrootsadvertising.com/blog/flash-mob/a-look-at-the-benefits-of-flash-mob-marketing/  about flash mob advertising and thought it is cost efficient. My friends told that they will help us with the flash mob. But I don't have any idea about how to do the campaign in an efficient way. What should we focus on? Any ideas for making our campaign fun and attract people?

Doris, there are many venues for advertising, flash mobbing is not one that I am very familiar with.

But, since you want to be in the public eye with your artwork, there is no better venue than displaying your artwork, well, out in public. I would suggest you take your artwork, and find a place in a park, set up, and display your paintings. Or, find a street market and display your art there as well. The more you can get your artwork out in the public eye the better.

Good luck with your advertising of your work, I wish you the best!

Also, please post some images of your work, we'd love to see it.

Some folks have good response from Pinterest.

I would second what John said - anyway you can get your work into the public 's eye will help.

Have you thought about asking a local restaurant if you ciuld hang a few pieces on their walls?  In my area, I see that often - a few pieces of artwork with a business card in the corner and a price for the piece

Your challenge is exposure:  you need it, and the more rare your form of art ("rare" in the likelihood of someone buying it), the wider the exposure.  Start with a web page.  These days, marketing conversations don't effectively start with "I saw this cute art shop"; they start with a tweet "here's a [cool?  neat?  awesome?  strat?  biff?] art site [with link]".  But you need a website for display.  There are also web "outlets" where makers post their wares.  Check those out.  After the web page is up.

That's an interesting advertising strategy. Here's some thoughts-

The Flash Mob would certainly get you a lot of immediate exposure. You'll want to continue drawing customers so a website would also be a consideration. The previous posters have all provided excellent suggestions on that and other social media outlets. Create a Twitter account and follow folks with similar interest. They'll follow you back and you'll gain exposure. Do the same with Pinterest. Google searches "hit" Pinterest with great success. Create a Google+ account and join their circles that share common interests. Facebook, same thing, you can even create an "event" for displaying your studio. Don't discount Snapchat, Instagram and You Tube. Also consider LinkedIn, Tumblr and Reddit. The more social media exposure, the more potential contact. Once you get started, you can concentrate on those outlets that provide the best results.

Someone mentioned restaurants as a public place. In our area, the local hospital has a wall where local artist display their works. During warm weather, farmer's markets and craft shows may be a possibility.

Don't forget to post you work here, we'd love to see it.

Look like I'm kind of late getting into this thread so most of the good stuff has already been said.  Eventlister.com, fairsfestivalsevents.com  , or just Google fairs craft shows festivals [your state]

Doris, a lot of great input above...don't rule out the use of Craigslist as well...should you create a Facebook page or website, you can provide a link in a CL ad.

Not knowing what part of the country you hail from, check with your local County 4-H Extension office...they may sponsor venues for display...also check with your local city/county library. Ours has numerous pieces from local artists of all walks with their art displayed along with contact information and pricing.

As already been mentioned, getting your pieces in front of the public is the goal...word of mouth is one of the best, cheapest and fastest forms of advertising. Good luck and keep us updated.

My local hospital has a wall that is dedicated to local art work. They display the work of one artist each month. You might check your local hospital to see if they offer such an opportunity to show your work.
