December 3, 20169 yr Popular Post When I lived in Ohio, we had a large back porch. I made my wife a large swing for her on the porch. It was primarily made of cherry that her father (deceased )used. I got a plan from the an Amish shop. I had to change nearly everything. It was 8 feet long and the slats were half inch thick. I changed all that and most of the supports too. I hooked up the chains as shown and it would tip over. So I ended changing all that too. I was a beautiful Cherry swing, however we have no porch here and the sun at altitude is brutal to wood finishes. I used the best I could find with the highest UV protection. Lasted bout a year and half. I finally painted it with high quality porch paint and it lasted 5 years.
December 3, 20169 yr You should have hung that in the living room. When we went to Grand Canyon we stayed in Flagstaff. There was a home there of brothers who were lumber barons. Attached identical homes with a large living room common between them and each had a very large swing in the den in front of a fireplace.
